$600,000 Buninyong Works

Cr John Philips Mayor City of Ballarat and Deputy Mayor Cr Peter Innes Inspecting the works at Buninyong this week.

IF you have recently travelled through or to Buninyong you could not help but notice the amount of works taking place.

Cr Peter Innes said currently there are two major projects taking place in Buninyong.

“One is the Public Art Project and a major piece of artwork will be installed in the town; the roundabout is being expanded to slow traffic down, and they are altering the rest of the intersection as part of the Town Square Fund,” he said.

“Almost $600,000 is going in just for the project itself. It is a combination of State Government and local council input.” Works are also taking place in front of the old Town Hall with pavers being laid making the area friendlier for pedestrians but also for events to be able to be held there more safely. “It’s (works) been going now for the best part of a month,” Cr Innes said. “It was an initiative of the Buninyong and District Residents Association. We had $200,000 to start with from the City Council and were able to then get State Government money to match that ($400,000), at least, and its pushed it to around $600,000.”
