ONE of the best things I did for my emotional, mental, physical & social well-being was joining the Ballarat South Senior Citizens Club,” said Linda when she was asked about Ballarat South Senior Citizens Club. “They are a very friendly group of people who treat one another with respect and love,” she added.

Then she continued on by saying, “At the entrance anybody coming in is welcomed with a lovely smile and greeting by the ladies attending the Reception Desk.” The very hard working committee members are supported by equally dedicated and devoted club members.

Other than the many in-house activities, the Club also has regular subsidised bus trips and outings.

Ballarat South Senior Citizens Club will shortly be celebrating their 47th birthday. The Club has about 150 members and runs monthly meetings where members are given the opportunity to express their ideas to help everyone feel more a part of the Club.

Council is kept well aware of the Club’s operations and assists financially with utilities, maintenance and grants.

The Club is open every day for activities. Monday & Friday – indoor bowls & cards. Tuesday – line dancing and a weekly afternoon dance. Wednesday – beginners’ ballroom dance class and indoor bowls.

Thursday – line dancing and an advanced ballroom dance class. Every 4th Friday, a monthly evening dance.

A monthly Sunday afternoon rock-n-roll and swing dance group, and shortly a craft group will operate on a Wednesday afternoon.

Other groups operate out of the premises, too, including the U3A Mah Jong class, the Italian Seniors’ Club, the Whirled Foundation Support Group, and at the weekend, the Christian Fellowship Church and the Grace International Communion Church.

This month is Senior Citizens’ Month and the Club has its annual Ball on Sunday afternoon 15th October, 1 -5pm.

Great music by the Family Rhythm Band, prizes awarded for most elegant couple, senior lady of the ball, beau of the ball, a great afternoon tea – all for $8. The venue is at 600 La Trobe St, Ballarat – opposite MaxiFoods.
