Micah, Ari, Freya and Opal, Marc, Mayor Cr Des Hudson and Rhiannon, a perfect summer day and a taste of what is to come in January.

TWO big name acts Thelma Plum and Montaigne – have been named in the 2016 Summer Sundays event program.

One of Ballarat’s most popular summer events, Summer Sundays will return to the beautiful surrounds of the Ballarat Botanical Gardens in January.

With a new time of 4 to 7pm, Summer Sundays will be held across four Sundays 10, 17, 24 and 31 January. Hosted by the City of Ballarat, Summer Sundays is a FREE community event. Now in its fifth year, the event will feature a diverse range of new sounds Thelma Plum and Montaigne are expected to draw huge crowds – with both performers gaining well-deserved media hype since uploading their tracks for the Triple J Unearthed competition in 2012. They’ll feature alongside local songstresses Freya Josephine Hollick and Arkie T Williams.

Indie Folk act All Our Exes Live in Texas will also perform along with Melbournebased all girl 60s garage/surf band The Reprobettes, rock grass legends the Quarry Mountain Dead Rats, and Brendan Welch a quiet master of Australian songwriting, who has recently been collaborating with industry great Paul Dempsey. A smaller secondary stage will be added to the format in 2016 to allow local, regional independent music makers the opportunity to play in front of the Summer Sundays crowd during interval periods.

A scrumptious selection of food vendors will also be available on site including The Forge Pizzeria, Bean Me Up Expresso, Baskerville Jaffles, Wholesome Hippo and Bianco Latte. City of Ballarat Mayor Cr Des Hudson said that over the five years that the event has been running, the program and list of events has continued to grow. “For anyone who is looking for something to do on Sunday afternoons this is the place to be,” Cr Hudson said.
