LOOKING down from the rooftop of Ballarat Health Services onto the building site on Drummond Street, you can see the progress each week.
Gerard Kennedy Manager of Capital Building Projects said that currently workers were getting the formwork ready for the level 2 slab.
“That is progressing well and they have continued to build the columns further for the third floor roof slab and they are doing inground works around the lift overrun area,” he said. “This work is in the north west corner of the site.
“Basically the handover date is October 2016. I think as far as completion of works we are looking at 45 – 50% so that’s basically where we are at the moment.” Mr Kennedy added there are two purposes to the new building. “One is to provide a new front of house which gives better linkage into the rest of the facility, which is in line with our master plan for the entire site,” he said. “Then there are two floors – the second floor being the 32 bed ward which will be fully fitted out with the project and the first floor will be a shell for further redevelopment of theatre/central sterilizing department but that is not funded in this budget.” Drummond Street will be the main entrance again upon completion but Sturt Street will still be a secondary entrance. “We continue to thank the community for their patience while we continue these works,” Mr Kennedy added. “We know it’s a bit of a hassle travelling through the hospital for them but looking at the bigger picture they will be provided with a better facility in the future.”
