Ballarat Laneways – Absolutely Local & Totally Live
THE Ballarat Laneways – Local & Live Free Live Music Program continues until August 1.
This is part of the next exciting instalment of Ballarat’s first Winterlude event. Ballarat Laneway: Local and Live is on every Friday and Saturday night until 1 August and features: five, interactive light installations featuring local artists; four, free, live music concerts over two venues; sixteen street art performances; Backspace Gallery openings and food vendors and beverages. Last Friday as the winter night fell over Ballarat, the Ballarat Laneways Lumieres lit up Alfred Deakin Place, Police Lane and George Lane.
The fun began at 6pm as the Spektraflash! Vintage Lightshow brought weird and wonderful colour and movement to the Art Gallery McCain Annexe.
Creating anotherworldly time and place, Spektraflash! complemented the ethereal guitar and bass improvisations of Rod Gear and the Southern swamp gothic blues of Ballarat favourites Mick Dog’s Boneyard. In the urban industrial surrounds of the George Lane Hop Temple, Kettlespider performed their unique progressive rock masterpieces followed by the garage punk rock of The Yard Apes. In between, street performances by The Climate
Guardians, Elliott Gee, Mary Rose McLaren and Caroline Packham and Danielle Karalus roamed the byways, nooks and crannies of the Ballarat Laneways corridor.
