ROUND 1 of the Ballarat Cricket Association First Grade saw three byes in the one day matches.

Wendouree was victorious over Darley in an away match played at Darley Park 8/203 – 9/197, in 50 overs.

Top scorer for Wendouree was Captain Gavin Webb who managed 59 runs before being caught and bowled by Hayden Jamieson.

Webb was well backed by Cole Roscholler (37), Matt Smith (29), Tom Le Lievre (24) and Liam Brady (22).

For Darley Mitchell Ward (not out) and Matthew Cape were top scorers on 45 each with Drew R Locke not far behind on 31 and Captain Michael Alexander on 20.

Best of the Wendouree bowlers were Stephen Segrave and Jack Peeters while for Darley it was Hayden Jamieson and Ben Longhurst.

One run was the winning margin for East Ballarat over Napoleons-Sebastopol 4/94 – 93.

Playing in the Napoleons- Sebastopol senior side was Elaine junior Nick Pantzidis who did a better with his bowling than his batting in this first game.

Nick is a very talented cricketer and one to watch.

In this low-scoring game Sebas wicket keeper Jacob Eyres managed a respectable 24 before being bowled out by Harli Givvens – Givvens was also handy with the bat ending the game on 20 not out.

Nicholas Waldie was top scorer for Ballarat East with 33 to his name.

In the final match of Round 1 North Ballarat defeated Ballarat-Redan 7/137/-136.

North Ballarat’s Prabath Priyankara was the standout player in this game with 53 not out while Ashley McCafferty steamrolled though the opposition, taking 5 wickets.

Mt Clear, Golden Point and Brown Hill all had byes.

Next week North Ballarat v Brown Hill on Northern Oval Turf, Mt Clear v Wendouree on Mount Clear Turf, Napoleons-Sebastopol v Darley on Napoleons Turf, Golden Point v East Ballarat at St. Patrick’s College and Ballarat-Redan has a bye.
