NORTH Ballarat has set Brown Hill 284 runs to beat in the first day of play in the Ballarat Cricket Association – First Grade.

North won the toss and elected to bat first.

Captain/coach Adam Eddy said his team had a ‘pretty solid’ pre-season which has shown in the first two games.

“We have focused on these two games and then we have a bye,” Eddy said.

“In the first game we lost the toss to start with but we know pour bowling line-up is pretty strong, so we were pretty confident with the ball against Ballarat-Redan.” Round one saw a good bowling and fielding performance from North Ballarat with Ashley McCafferty a standout with 5 wickets.

Ballarat-Redan was on the back-foot from the start, going down 136 – 7/137.

North’s plan in last Saturday’s game was to bat all day, which went to plan, ending the day in the second last over.

North got off to a good start with a partnership of 135 between Leigh Lorenzen (52) and Mick Nolan (83).

Adding to the score was Jason Crosbie (41) and Scott Wright (48).

“We recruited pretty hard,” Eddy said.

“Ash McCafferty used to play for us but he went to Melbourne for a couple of years and has returned – he is our quick bowler but all the other bowlers are pretty handy, as well.” This is Eddy’s third year at North as captain/coach but he has had experience at other clubs.
