SAINT Patrick’s Cathedral and Regina Caeli are hosting Carols in the Cathedral at 7pm on Friday 22 December 2017.
Carols in the Cathedral was a roaring success in 2016 and it will be even bigger and better this year.
Carols in the Cathedral will host a range of Ballarat’s best choirs and bands including Regina Caeli Schola, Vox, Ballarat Choral Society, Musicians of St Patrick’s Cathedral, the Choir of the Anglican Cathedral of Christ the King and Creswick Brass Band.
In addition, the event has secured the services of Dr Andrew Mariotti, (Organist, St Mary Star of the Sea, West Melbourne) as guest organist, and Hugh McKelvey (of the Creswick Brass Band) as guest conductor.
Regina Caeli Schola member, Mr Vincent Sully, said “Last year saw a huge line up of some of Ballarat’s most talented musicians.
This year we look forward to an even larger group dedicating their talents to celebrating Christmas through song and raising money for our local community”.
Carols in the Cathedral will be an event that provides an opportunity for audience members to listen to sublime sacred music crafted by wellknown composers as well as to participate in singing their favourite carols.
Mr Sully said “As well as plenty of opportunities for audience participation, there will be special ensemble pieces composed by such masters as John Taverner, Tomas Luis de Victoria and George Frederich Handel”. “No carols event would be complete without Handel’s famed Hallelujah Chorus”, said Mr Sully.
Donations will be collected for the 3BA Christmas Appeal, supporting St Vincent de Paul, Anglicare, UnitingCare Ballarat and the Salvation Army.
Mr Sully said “Everybody is welcome at this event. We want to make it a special occasion that shares the Christmas spirit with as many people as possible”
