Statue Pavilion closed for painting

The Statue Pavilion at the Ballarat Botanical Gardens is receiving a fresh coat of paint. Scaffolding has been installed and the Pavilion will be closed for around three to four weeks whilst works are under way.

Body on Work exhibition on now

The works of 26 local and regional artists are on display now at the Backspace Gallery in Alfred Deakin Place. The ‘Body of Work’ exhibition illustrates the stories of the Central Highlands with portraits of the personalities who bring our region to life. Body of Work is on display until Sunday 1 November. The Backspace Gallery is open Thursday to Sunday, 12 to 4pm.

Black Hill Aquatic Centre update

Works are continuing at the Black Hill pool in preparation for its opening this summer. The new BBQ has been installed and other works, including new shade and seating, will be completed in the coming weeks ready for the 2015/16 summer outdoor pool season.

Two new water play facilities underway

Works to construct Ballarat’s two new outdoor water play facilities are underway. The two new facilities are being built at the Eureka Aquatic Centre and Victory Park, Sebastopol. Both projects are being delivered by the City of Ballarat and will be ready for play this summer. Eureka Stadium update

The $15 million State Government-funded redevelopment of ?Ballarat’s? ?Eureka Stadium is progressing well. Work to realign and upgrade the oval has been underway since September. This work will pave the way for further development of spectator facilities throughout 2016 and will allow AFL games to be staged in Western Victoria in 2017.

Public art at Alfred Deakin Place

Visited Alfred Deakin Place recently and noticed the public art piece being created? Japanese born Australian Ikebana Master/Sculptor Shoso Shimbo is creating a large 3D portait to coincide with the Archibald Prize exhibition at the Art Gallery of Ballarat. Using a combination of natural and recycled materials, Shimbo will create his piece over a six week period. Drop back regularly to see the sculpture evolve.

Wendouree footpath works Footpath works in Wendouree are now complete.

The works were carried out in Theobald Street, Wendouree, between Carpenter and Malmesbury Streets. As part of the works, four new pedestrian crossings have been provided and two existing side entry pits upgraded.

Have your say – Victoria Park

The Final Draft of the Victoria Park Master Plan is now complete and available for download and community feedback. Residents can have their say from now until Monday 9 November 2015. The Master Plan is also available for viewing in hard copy at the City of Ballarat’s Customer Service Centre and local Ballarat libraries. Submissions received during this period will be considered prior to the presentation of the Victoria Park Master Plan to Council for approval in December 2015.
