Public art at Alfred Deakin Place

Visited Alfred Deakin Place lately and noticed the public art piece on display? Japanese born Australian Ikebana Master/Sculptor Shoso Shimbo created a large 3D portrait to coincide with the Archibald Prize exhibition at the Art Gallery of Ballarat. Using a combination of natural and recycled materials, Shimbo created his piece over a six week period.

Honouring the ANZACs website

The Honouring the Anzacs website is now live. A project of the Centenary of Anzacs, visit the website and read the stories behind the 3,801 brave Ballarat men and women who served Australia during the Great War. The website is easy to use and will help residents and visitors to search for a family member or ancestor along the Avenue of Honour. New Mayor and Deputy Mayor elected

A Special Meeting of Ballarat City Council was held at the Ballarat Town Hall to elect the new Mayor and Deputy Mayor. Cr Des Hudson was elected as Mayor and Cr Belinda Coates as Deputy Mayor.

Free green waste on now

It’s time to prepare for the Fire Danger Period and there is no better time with FREE GREEN WASTE on now at the Gillies Street Transfer Station. Our Fire Prevention Officers are currently undertaking fire hazard inspections on private land under the CFA Act. If a property is deemed a fire risk, a Fire Prevention Notice will be issued legally directing the owner/occupier to reduce the risk. Make sure you don’t receive a notice by cutting your grass to a maximum height of 100mm. Free Green Waste Disposal is on now and ends this Sunday, 22 November.

Ballarat Station Precinct EOI

Expressions of interest from parties interested in sharing their vision and capabilities for the State Government-funded $25 million Ballarat Station Precinct redevelopment are open until 17 December. A community information session about the project’s progress will be held on 7 December. The proposed hotel and exhibition/ convention centre is expected to include more than 100 hotel rooms, large flexible spaces for exhibitions and conventions, and a range of quality retail and dining offerings.
