Plastic Free July

Have you joined the campaign yet? The challenge is simple: attempt to refuse single-use plastic during July. Plastic Free July aims to raise awareness of the amount of singleuse disposable plastic in our lives and challenges people to do something about it. Try to refuse all single-use plastic or try the top four: plastic bags, water bottles, takeaway coffee cups and straws. You can sign up for a day, a week or the whole month. How to write a winning tender

Are you a local business owner? If so, listen up! Increase your chances of winning more local tenders by attending a FREE City of Ballarat Tenderwrite workshop. Register now to better understand the tendering process, learn practical skills on how to source tender opportunities and get tips on how to prepare winning submissions. Workshops will be held on: Friday 7 August, 9am to 3pm, Tuesday 22 September, 9am to 3pm and Thursday 22 October, 9am to 3pm. All workshops will be held at the Ballarat Town Hall. The first workshop on 7 August will be held as part of Ballarat Business Month. Registrations are essential contact the City of Ballarat at 5320 5116.

Celebrate the flavours of the world at the Ballarat Winterlude International Food Market on Saturday 1 August at the Ballarat Mining Exchange. Sample mouthwatering dishes from local international cuisine themed restaurants including Fu Man Lou, Asahi and Zaragosa Restaurant & Bar. Visitors can also enjoy international beers and view cultural performances including Gum Loon, the traditional Chinese dragon. Entry is FREE and food will be available to purchase. The guidelines are a practical, informative reference guide for individuals and businesses looking to introduce outdoor dining or undertake street performance activity. Submissions close 27 July. The new $150,000 natural play space at Lake Esmond is ready for play. The new playspace features: double flying fox, accessible gyro swing, accessible big leg swing, climbing elements, sandpit, climbing logs, stepping stones and posts, musical play items, log climbing forest, new paths, new tables/ benches, new paved BBQ shelter and native trees and plants. The project has the City of Ballarat’s Play Space Planning Framework Budget and the Engaging Communities Program.

The Ballarat Winterlude pop-up ice skating rink has been a hit during the winter school holidays. More than 11,000 people ice skated, another 5,000 enjoyed toboggan rides and thousands more enjoyed the spectacle from the sidelines. The pop-up ice skating rink will now be packed up and Armstrong Street South will re-open to the public on Wednesday 22 July.

On this weekend Immerse yourself in the city’s laneways as part of the next exciting installment of Ballarat’s first Winterlude event. Ballarat Laneway: Local and Live launches this Friday and is set to enliven and enlighten Ballarat’s CBD with a threeweek street party every Friday and Saturday night from 17 July to 1 August.
