Ballarat Heritage Weekend

A report on the success of the 2015 Ballarat Heritage Weekend went to an Ordinary Meeting of Ballarat City Council last night (22/07). 9,250 people enjoyed Ballarat Heritage Weekend in May this year. 70% of the crowd were local and 30% were visitors to Ballarat and the event injected $744,000 into the city’s economy. Archibald Prize: Hop On, Hop Off Bus

More than 45,000 will visit the city for the? Archibald Prize, 3 October to 15 November, and many thousands will ride the rails to Ballarat. A V/ Line dedicated Goldrush Special service will have volunteers on board to chat with visitors about our great city. The City of Ballarat has partnered with Sovereign Hill to deliver a new special Hop On, Hop Off loop bus service with stops at Ballarat Railway Station, Art Gallery of Ballarat, Museum of Australian Democracy at Eureka, Sovereign Hill, Town Hall and Lake Wendouree/ Ballarat Botanical Gardens. The Today, Tomorrow, Together: The Ballarat Strategy

was adopted by Ballarat City Council last night (22/07). It follows extensive community consultation and responds to more than 6,500 ideas and submissions made by individuals, community and business groups and Government Agencies. The Strategy has received strong community and business support. The Strategy is the City’s plan for the next 25 years and shows how the city will ideally look in 2040. It thoughtfully considers development, transport, economic development, environment and land use. Council will now request the Victorian Planning Minister to authorise an amendment to the Ballarat Planning Scheme. We want you!

Australia’s most famous art exhibition, the Archibald Prize, is coming to Ballarat.

More than 45,000 people are expected to flock to the Art Gallery of Ballarat between 2 October and 15 November. We need volunteers to provide a high level of customer service to help visitors find their way through the exhibition. Applications close 1 September. Buninyong and District Graffiti Removal Trailer launched

The new ?Buninyong and District Graffiti Removal Trailer was launched at the Buninyong Village Market on Sunday (26/07). The trailer will be operated by volunteers from the Buninyong Men’s Shed and will provide a free graffiti removal service for local residents. The graffiti removal trailer is a partnership project between the City of Ballarat, Buninyong and District Community Association and the Buninyong Men’s Shed. Funding for the project was provided through the City of Ballarat’s Engaging Communities Program, the Victorian Government’s Community Crime Prevention Program and the Buninyong and Mt Helen Lions Clubs.

It’s just six months to Australia Day! Nominations are now open for the Australia Day Awards: Ballarat Citizen of the Year, Ballarat Young Citizen of the Year and Community Activity of the Year. Ballarat to host Australian Boulder Climbing Championships

The world’s top climbers will scale new heights when ??Ballarat hosts the Australian Boulder Climbing Championships in October. 200 competitors from across Australia and abroad are expected to battle it out on the custom-made wall being built especially for the event. Council approved the construction of the wall at the Ballarat Aquatic & Lifestyle Centre at a Council meeting recently. The wall will remain a permanent fixture, so that national and international teams can conduct training camps, and Ballarat can continue to host big events.
