WE WILL DESTROY-WE WILL DESTROY
YOU have probably driven past the I Made It Creative Café on Albert Street Sebastopol and seen a Dalek sitting on the verge, which was built by Garry Seiler out of a mobility scooter. “We’d decided to build it (Dalek) for Bathurst and take it up to the car racing and drive it around the top of the mountain,” he said. “We just drove it round the campsite there and put it up on the mound.” Initially Garry was going to make the Dalek out of his mother’s mobility scooter, after she had passed away. “I was going to make two of them – one for me and one for a mate – so I went and got another scooter and made this one, which was for him but he’d passed away,” Garry said.“So this one is completed and I have another probably half completed but I don’t know when I’ll get that finished.”
A Doctor Who Fan, made by the availability of only two channels – Channel 6 and Channel 3 – Garry chose Dr Who over the news. Garry said the Dalek took close to two years to build and a few years of planning. “It didn’t cost a great deal at all, to build. The Perspex was probably one of the dearer things and the top is made from a Weber barbeque,” he said.
While Garry was too late to enter his Dalek into the Begonia Festival this year he has plans to take it back to Bathurst.
“We had fun with it last year so it will be back,” he said.
