JOSHUA Morris urges locals to roll up their sleeves and give blood this winter Member for Western Victoria Region, Joshua Morris MP, today urged locals to join him in donating blood at the Ballarat Blood Donor Centre.

“Sunday is the World Health Organisation’s World Donate Blood Day which is a great opportunity to remind locals that the Red Cross Blood Service needs donations, particularly over winter,” Mr Morris said. The Blood Service is facing a harsh cold and flu season which is impacting on donor numbers. “You need to be feeling 100 per cent well to donate and during winter many regular donors and struck-down with the flu and unable to give blood,” Mr Morris said.

“The Blood Service needs the help of healthy donors to take the place of those who are unwell.”

“One in three Australians will need a blood or blood products in their lifetime, but only one in thirty people give blood.” “Donating blood only takes one hour and your donation will change someone’s life forever.” Modern processing techniques mean that a single blood donation can help to save three lives, including the lives of cancer patients and surgical patients, new mothers, people with blood diseases and burns victims. “Each week Australia needs around 25,000 blood donations, so if you’ve never donated blood, or if it’s been a while since your last donation, now is the time to make an appointment to help save lives this winter.” The Ballarat Blood Donor Centre is located at 601-603 La Trobe Street, Redan.
