Lions Club School Bands Extravaganza


ON Thursday the 13th of August, the Lions Club of Sebastopol will be staging a School Bands Extravaganza at the Gay Gough Theatre at Mt Clear College commencing at 7pm.

This is the second year the event has been staged after a very successful inaugural show in 2014.

A wide variety of music will be presented by a range of ensembles from a quartet to a to 30 piece concert band.

The School’s featured on the night will include; Mt Clear College, Phoenix P-12 Community College, Ballarat High School and Ballarat Grammar. Phoenix P-12 Community College Band performs for many community activities. The Band plays a variety of genres, from Celtic to Cold Play, Les Miserables to Let It Go etc. Our performance for the Ballarat Lions Club Fundraiser will Include 3 contrasting styles, Bring Him Home from Les Miserables, Palladio which is a dramatic Karl Perkins chart and Little Talks, recorded by Of Monsters and Men . Ballarat Grammars contribution will this year be a jazz quartet featuring; Georgie Maher – vocals, Oliver Rasmussen – keys, Matt Barham – Bass and Tom McMullin – Drums. This talented quartet will further add to the diversity of the night and the variety of entertainment on show. Ballarat High School will have their 18 piece original stage band “Whizbang” playing at the show. The Band plays a variety of styles and has just completed a highly successful tour of the Grampians region playing 10 shows in 4 days.

Mount Clear Cabaret Band will play music to get you to jiggle, from Motown and ABBA, through to the hits of the 80s and today. The Band is a funky contemporary ensemble of approximately 15 players that always plays with great enthusiasm and energy. Entry to the event is $ 5 with children under 15 free.

All proceeds from the show will be donated to the Ballarat Health Services Day Oncology Unit. Last year the Lions Club raised $400 and donated it to this most worthy cause. For information call Ron on 5345 3344
