LAST Thursday the Mt. Clear College auditorium was the venue for the Lions Club of Sebastopol and District’s annual School Band Extravaganza. The school bands involved were the Ballarat Grammar Jazz Quartet, Ballarat High School “Whizbang” Band, Mt. Clear College Cabaret Band and the Phoenix P-12 Community College Concert Band. The co-ordinator for the concert, Ron Thomas, said the audience were entertained with a wide range of music that kept the musicians and audience toe tapping through-out the concert.
The concert gave the members of the school bands the opportunity to come together to mix in harmony, show case their obvious skills to a wider audience and to note the capabilities and talents of the other musicians. All proceeds from the night will go to the Ballarat Region Integrated Cancer Centre and Ron and the Lions Club appreciate the time given to them by the band members, and in particular the conductors or musical directors from the schools involved in the Extravaganza, those being Bryn Hills from Ballarat High School, John Netherway from Phoenix P1-2 Community College Concert Band, Andrew Dale from Ballarat Grammar and Scott Mangoes from Mt. Clear College. “The initial idea of the concert was to give the school bands the opportunity to show case their musical talents to a wider audience and to secondly to raise some money for the Day Oncology at the Ballarat Regional Integrated Cancer Centre and we have achieved both so it’s a win / win for all involved in the Extravaganza.” Mr Thomas said.
