Hay, that’s a teddy! By Jessica Howard
THERE’S a teddy bear in Ballan with a serious case of hay fever. Located across the road from Crossroads Trading, ‘Lloyd’ is the four-meter high teddy bear made from hay bales and he’s here to promote the upcoming Literacy Trail. Co-owner of Crossroads Trading, Lloyd Robertson and employee Marc Bevern donated their time and materials to the giant bear, with additional help from Ballan Hardware and Ballan Plumbing.
“It’s made up of five round bales and six small square bales the whole thing took around two and a half hours to make,” Mr Robertson said.
The annual Literacy Trail is an initiative of Moorabool Shire Council’s Best Start program and is sponsored by a number of local businesses, health and welfare organisations, emergency services and community groups.
In it’s 9th year, the award-winning street event attracts hundreds of children, teachers, parents and grandparents and offers a number of exciting performers from stilt walkers and knife jugglers to puppet shows and circus dogs. Children will also have the opportunity to collect autographs from costumed book characters, including a costumed Mayor!
The 2015 Literacy Trail will be held on Friday, September 4 from 10am – 1pm in Inglis Street, Ballan. For more information visit https://www.facebook.com/mooraboolfamilies
