Sing Australia Ballarat celebrates birthday and presents 10 year long service badge to members
SING Australia encouraging people who want to sing to open their hearts and mind and let their voices…do the talking! IN the words of Lyn Murray, one of five Sing Australia Ballarat members to receive a 10 year long service badge, it’s the supportive and caring community that keeps her and others returning week after week to sing.
Lyn said that while all the clichés are true she has met some wonderful, friendly people who have given her great support. The presentations of the long service awards were a surprise to the recipients who were attending the 14th birthday party of Sing Australia Ballarat. Carolyn Priddle, Leader of Sing Australia in Ballarat said that the two Ballarat choirs were really successful as they brought together people of all ages and abilities. Sing Australia is not only about singing, but also about fun, friendship and encouragement. With over 150 members the two choirs meet on a Monday night at the Ballaarat Mechanics Institute or a Thursday morning at BLOC.
It is no surprise that with such a great reputation five people received their ten year long service badge. Recipient Rosalie Tournier said from the first meeting she felt accepted, with no one judging her singing ability. With no auditions the philosophy of Sing Australia suited her down to the ground. She said that she believed the success of Ballarat’s Sing Australia choirs is down to the dynamic personalities of conductor Marilyn Kent, pianist Jane Nice and Leader Carolyn Priddle. Their enthusiasm keeps the community coming back for more.
