ONE of Ballarat’s most prominent and influential leaders, the late Henry Thai, received a posthumous award from the City of Ballarat for his contribution to Ballarat-Chinese relations, last month. His widow Sandra, surrounded by her family, accepted a certificate of recognition on his behalf. Mr Thai was known for his role as president of the Ballarat Chinese Community Association but he was also patron of the fundraising for the construction of the Open Monument on main Road, Ballarat.

Mrs Thai said the family was proud of his achievements. “My Husband lived here for 40 years,” she said. “He not only helped the community in Ballarat but also in Melbourne. “He was not a selfish person but would always open his heart and extend his hand to help.” Henry Thai was awarded an Order of Australia in 2002, was a recipient of the Centenary Medal and had also acted as a Justice of the Peace.
