WITH sections such as Debating, Speech & Drama, Instrumental & Choral all run and won the Royal South Street Eisteddfod now turns its attention to Dance.
Last week saw the Energetiks Dance Competition begin on the famous raked stage of Her Majesty’s Theatre Ballarat. The dance competition continues to grow seeing 2523 entrants compete in 158 sections across 18 packed days in 2015. Solos, duos, trios and troupes will converge on Ballarat from right around Victoria and beyond. Ballarat as you would suspect is well represented with schools competing including BCMA, Anita Coutts School of Dance, Dance School of Distinction, Ballarat Ballet Centre & Kerry Moore School of Ballet.
Chair of the Energetiks Dance Competition volunteer Angela Cannizzaro says she’s looking forward to getting the event underway. “It takes months and months of planning by the Dance committee and office team but when the first under 8 year old performer hits the stage on morning one it makes it all worthwhile.” Ms Cannizzaro said. One of the great appeals of South Street is the quality of Adjudicators. The adjudication team this year consists of Natasha Riley from NSW, Hollie Hewett from Queensland and Mark Hodge from South Australia. Mark will be particularly well known to the dance community having competed on TV show Dancing with the Stars in series 1 and 2 as well as numerous musical theatre productions including West Side Story.
The Energetiks Dance Competition is on until Saturday 3rd October at Her Majesty’s Theatre, Lydiard Street South, Ballarat. Tickets are $14.50 Adult, $12.50 Concession, $9.50 Child at the theatre or phone the box office on 5333 5888
