THE Ballarat Orchid Club held its annual show over three days, beginning last Friday and concluding on Sunday.
A large number of magnificent blooms were on display in the Primary Industries Training Centre. Hundreds of people passed through the doors for a close up view of the orchids.
The annual event is also a chance to learn about the growing of orchids through potting demonstration, with sales and show rooms also featuring local and commercial produce. The orchid show is the major fundraiser for the club and members excelled in their displays this year. Orchids have some of the most diverse flowers of all plants and most are not too difficult to grow. Over the three days there was an exciting range of different shapes and colours on display. The Ballarat Orchid Club is a keen promoter of orchid growing in the district and always welcomes new members.
As well as the popular Cymbidium orchid there were displays of the Australian native dendrobium and a host of exotic species for those who like the unusual.
